Before Codvoy, I spent 3+ years working in printing and advertising here in Addis — banners, business cards, flyers, the whole thing. On a good month I cleared around 20,000 Birr. It was steady, but the ceiling was the ceiling. No matter how many long days I worked, the number didn't really move.
I started teaching myself to code at night. Half the tutorials were in accents I couldn't follow. I made every mistake you can make. It took years — but eventually I crossed $50,000 on Upwork, working with clients who paid in dollars from offices I'll probably never visit.
